A Tribute To Max

Today Max received his final send off as his ashes were scattered over his favourite flower bed. Barry and Rita Preston from Walkmill Cottage also attended and Barry read a poem he had written and dedicated to Max.

Ode To Max
One of ten pups in a Staffordshire Litter
The Children chose Max, who was cuter and fitter
He played with his balls, and showed promise at tennis
And though he like barking, he could be a menace

Max ate for England, he ate everything
He’d clear out the dustbin; then eat the bin
When Lucky arrived, he thought that was fine
‘Til she nibbled his ears just to keep him in line

Max liked a fight, and would usually win
Then go for a jump on the trampoline
When he’d seen off the local felines and dogs
He’d go in the garden and dig up some frogs!

Max liked the country, and would walk around for miles
Though Brian would carry him over the stiles
Some thought that Maxie weighed over the odds
But the Vet said he’d got bigger bones than most dogs!

Visiting tradesmen would tremble with fright
But Max’s harsh bark was far worse than his bite
He’d intimidate workmen to sharing their lunch
Or nose in their vans to find something to munch

So here’s to old Maxie, the pick of the pack
Who survived a ‘Big Op’ for a lump on this back
He welcomed attention, but you’d have to watch
For Max’s response - with his nose in your crotch!
